The majority of the key sections of SB1070, Arizona’s immigration law have been overturned by the Supreme Court this morning.
Justice Kennedy wrote for the court and Justices Scalia, Thomas and Alito concurred in part and dissented in part. You can read the opinion here.
Specifically, the court overturned sections of the law that:
- required aliens to carry registration papers;
- prohibited illegal aliens from seeking work;
- allowed the police to stop and arrest anyone that they suspected of being an illegal alien.
